Meeting your spirit guides is a wonderful, life changing experience. It’s like meeting a celebrity for the first time. You know all about them, you’ve seen their work and you have a sense of awe about them. The only difference is that meeting a celebrity isn’t nearly as easy as meeting your spirit guides.
Before we go into how to meet your spirit guides, it’s important to first know what spirit guides are.
What are Spirit Guides?
Spirit Guides are a part of your spiritual task force. They are amazing people who lived through many incarnations here on earth. They come from many walks of life and once they crossed over, they decided to dedicate their life to helping those of us who are in physical form.
They often speak to us in subtle ways, and until we take the time to meet them, we may not recognize their guidance. They communicate by putting ideas into our heads. These ideas can come in the form of a quote, a thought, an idea, a vision of something, or an impression that we feel in our gut.
Sometimes we pay attention to these subtle communications, but I find that most people dismiss them completely and continue along their merry way.
Once you meet your spirit guides, and learn how they communicate, then you will have an easier time hearing (or seeing) their messages. You will move on from getting tiny impressions that you are unsure of to an actual relationship with your guides.
Setting the Tone
There are two things that are most important when meeting your spirit guides. The first is to make it your intention. The second is to have an open heart. If meeting your guides is something that frightens you, then they may not come to you when you set your intention. See, our guides are fully loving, helpful and thoughtful. If the thought of meeting them scares you, then they will wait until you are ready to meet them before they make their appearance.
There are many different books and CDs out there that are dedicated to helping you meet your spirit guides, but the truth is that no book or CD is needed, as people have been meeting their spirit guides without such tools for thousands of years.
All you need to do is find a quite place to meditate without any distractions. Now, think of one of your favorite places. A place where you feel safe and secure. This can be an actual place, like your home or maybe even a favorite coffee shop, or it can be a place that you have created in your own imagination.
When you are ready, find a place to sit or lay down. Close your eyes and take three deep, slow breaths. As you breathe, feel the the tension in your body melt away, and feel yourself begin to relax. Visualize your safe place and ask your guides to come forward.
Be mindful of what you experience. You may see a person appear, or a silhouette. You may hear with your inner ears, or they may reveal themselves to you in a stream of light or images. As with any relationship, communication is most important, so don’t be surprised if they want to establish and strengthen the way the communicate with you before they show themselves.
Remember that your spirit guides are your friends . . . your best friends . . . whether you know it or not. They will not do anything to jeopardize your relationship, especially in the beginning.
You may also find that your guides will prefer to come to you one at a time, instead of coming to you all at once.
Once you sense their presence, you can begin to talk to them. You may want to ask them questions such as:
How can you help me?
What is your role as my guide?
What can I do to hear you better?
Is there anything I should be doing right now?
And any variety of questions that come to mind. You can also ask them what their name is, what their hobbies are, if they have a favorite book, and other type of questions that you would ask your friends.
Your meditation can be as long or as short as you like. Whenever you are ready to end your session, you can thank your guides for their participation and simply open your eyes.
What To Expect
It’s important to make this a daily practice until you feel completely comfortable with your guides. As you build a relationship with them, you’ll begin to notice their presence with you throughout your day. You won’t have to go through the steps of meditating before you see or hear them, because the connection has already been established.
You’ll also begin to notice that your guides will each have their own personalities. One may be more humorous than the others, and one may be much more serious. You may notice that some prefer to talk to you through impressions, while others talk directly to you.
It may be hard to differentiate between your guides when you first start working with them, but in time, you’ll get to know your spirit team very well.
